Mathare, Nairobi, Kenya | October 2026

The Vineyard Christian CBO (TVCCBO), with financial support from The Hope Venture, successfully implemented a three-week Term 2 Holiday Feeding Programme under the Mathare Feeding Project (06700), reaching 60 children aged between 4 and 10 years.

The programme provided meals while creating a supportive environment for children to participate in Bible-based learning, creative activities, hygiene education and social interaction during the school holidays.

Nourishing Children Beyond the Meal

At the heart of the programme was the provision of meals to children from vulnerable households in Mathare. The feeding component was complemented by structured activities aimed at supporting children's spiritual, social and personal development.

Throughout the three weeks, children participated in Bible storytelling, memory verses, colouring, modelling, role-playing, drawing, singing and dancing.

These activities provided opportunities for children to learn, express their creativity, build confidence and interact positively with their peers.

Learning Through Stories and Participation

Each week featured different Bible stories and practical learning activities.

During the first week, children explored the stories of David and Goliath and Adam and Eve through storytelling, colouring, modelling and role-playing.

The second week focused on Solomon and his wisdom, as well as Abraham and his son Isaac. Alongside these lessons, children received practical education on personal hygiene and sanitation, including proper handwashing steps and toileting practices.

In the final week, the children learned about Noah building the ark and Joseph and his brothers. Drawing, colouring, songs, dances and storytelling helped reinforce the lessons and maintain active participation.

Promoting Health and Hygiene

Health awareness was another important component of the programme. During the second week, a medical camp was conducted, providing an additional opportunity for healthcare access within the community.

One of the participating children was diagnosed with scabies during the medical camp. This highlighted the importance of continued hygiene education and access to appropriate healthcare services for vulnerable children.

The integration of hygiene lessons and healthcare opportunities strengthened the programme's holistic approach to supporting children's well-being.

Positive Progress Observed

Feedback from the teacher highlighted encouraging developments throughout the three-week programme.

The children demonstrated improved behaviour and greater adherence to programme rules. Their interest in the activities also increased as the programme progressed, with noticeable participation in storytelling, creative learning and group activities.

The teacher further reported noticeable improvements in the children's general health after three weeks of participation.

These observations reinforce the importance of combining feeding support with structured learning, hygiene awareness and opportunities for social development.

Looking Ahead

The programme also identified the need for adequate teaching and learning resources to support effective delivery of future activities.

The Vineyard Christian CBO remains committed to strengthening the programme through improved learning resources, continued feeding support, interactive teaching approaches and greater attention to children's health and well-being.

A Message of Appreciation

The Vineyard Christian CBO sincerely appreciates The Hope Venture for its financial support and continued partnership in implementing the Mathare Feeding Project.
